Right to Work Status

From 1st July 2021 we are required to prove the Right to Work status for European citizens because of the EU settlement scheme deadline has now passed.

For us to be able to do this, we will require job applicants codes, for example A12 345 67G, along with date of birth.

We will then be able to check the right to work status and print confirmations from the system, which will then be sent to the employer along with applicants’ personal details and copies of either passport or national ID card.

We risk being sent to jail for 5 years and an unlimited fine to pay if we are found to be guilty of employing someone who we knew or had ‘reasonable cause to believe’ did not have the right to work in the UK.

This includes, for example, if we had any reason to believe that:

• they did not have leave (permission) to enter or remain in the UK

• their leave had expired

• they were not allowed to do certain types of work

• their papers were incorrect or false
